About This Game
Through the craftsmanship of accomplished developer DTM, the original version of the stylish Genesis diesel – the P40DC (also often called the Dash 8-40BP) comes to Train Simulator Classic along with an all-new complete Amtrak Superliner consist!
Detailed Description
Since its debut nearly two decades ago, General Electric’s landmark “Genesis” passenger diesel locomotive has been the Thoroughbred of Amtrak diesel motive power, hauling short- and long-haul Amtrak intercity passenger trains throughout the vast United States.
Now, through the craftsmanship of accomplished developer DTM, the original version of the stylish Genesis diesel – the P40DC (also often called the Dash 8-40BP) comes to Train Simulator Classic along with an all-new complete Amtrak Superliner consist!
The GE P40DC made its debut in 1993, based upon specifications Amtrak had developed two years earlier. The specifications for the locomotive called for a micro-processor-equipped 4,000-horsepower unit with HEP (hotel) power that would be both stylish and trim (to ensure the diesel could operate throughout Amtrak’s entire system). To create the pioneering locomotive, General Electric collaborated with its German subsidiary (which provided high-speed bolsterless two-axle trucks and enlisted its time-proven FDL-series 16-cylinder engine to provide the power. Amtrak designer Cesar Vergara created the distinctive design of the potent locomotive.
In the spring of 1994, 44 Amtrak P40DCs rolled out of GE’s Erie (Pennsylvania) plant wearing Amtrak’s stunning red, blue, and silver Phase III livery. Beginning in 1995, a dual-power sister, the P32AC-DM, was constructed for Amtrak and Metro-North, and in 1996 the first of what would eventually total 228 P42DCs were constructed by GE. Internally, the P42DC called upon an additional 200 horsepower; externally the P42s were virtually identical to the P40DC.
As created for Train Simulator Classic by noted developer DTM, the P40DC is a superb visual recreation of the landmark locomotive and it features authentic controls and performance, including advance air braking operations. The P40DC is provided in both its original Phase III livery and Amtrak’s much-admired Phase IV scheme as debuted in 1993.
As an extraordinary bonus, the Amtrak P40DC DLC for Train Simulator Classic also features a set of Amtrak’s extraordinary bi-level Superliner passenger equipment. Introduced in 1978 and still serving today as the backbone of Amtrak’s long-haul equipment,
the Superliners in this Add-On wears Phase IV liveries, and include Sleeper, Deluxe Sleeper, Transition Sleeper, Coach, Diner, Lounge. Four career scenarios re-creating a journey of the legendary Amtrak Empire Builder on the popular Stevens Pass route through the Cascade Mountains (route available separately) will give you the opportunity to take the throttle of the P40DC for truly memorable railroading!
