And now, you can try your hand as an engineer to tame the tonnage and the unrelenting grades of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, with Saluda Grade Scenario Pack 01.

Saluda Grade Scenario Pack 01 features ten realistic career scenarios that bring to life dramatic Norfolk Southern railroading of the 1980s and 1990s, as potent second-generation NS diesels battle heavy tonnage and the daunting Blue Ridge Mountain grades between Asheville, North Carolina and Spartanburg, South Carolina.

With Saluda Grade Scenario Pack 01, you’ll tackle both the ascent and descent of historic Saluda Grade, America’s steepest standard gauge railroad main line, you’ll operate over the route’s challenging “saw tooth” profile of numerous roller-coaster 1.5 percent grades, and you’ll work local and switching duties to serve many of the 40+ industries along the route.

Saluda Grade Scenario Pack 01 will take you over the length of the historic 70-mile “A&S” route as masterfully created by developer High Iron Simulations and will put your hand on the throttle of three types of second-generation Norfolk Southern Electro-Motive diesels, including high-nose (ex-Southern Railway) and low-nose (ex-Norfolk & Western) SD40-2s and the distinctive ex-Southern Railway high-nose, Alco-trucked GP35.

With Saluda Grade Scenario Pack 01, you will:

• Take the throttle of the mammoth and ponderous Belmont Coal Train, powered by seven Norfolk Southern EMD SD40-2s, for a complete 70-mile, Asheville-Spartanburg end-to-end run of the Saluda Grade route including the descent of 4.7 percent Saluda Grade.
  
• With a westbound manifest freight, you’ll make the treacherous climb of the east slope of the Blue Ridge and “double the hill” on the Saluda Grade between Melrose and Saluda Summit.
  
• You will call at the sprawling Skyland power plant, gather hopper empties, and forward the consist to Asheville Yard.
  
• On a wintry day in the Blue Ridge, you’ll handle a pair of veteran EMD GP35s working a local turn and making pick-ups and set-outs at various lineside industries.
  
• You’ll be called as engineer of the Norfolk Southern’s “Rouster Job” to work from Hayne Yard in Spartanburg to Inman and handle heavy switching duties at multiple locations.
  
• On a brilliant autumn day such as draws tourists to the Carolinas from around the world, you’ll operate Norfolk Southern manifest freight No. 171 across the magnificent, twisting, and steep scenic heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
