With the obviously very limited length of the flight deck, taking off required a good wind over the deck. The carrier would steam into the wind at a good speed, adding the wind generated by the ship displacement, to produce a good wind over the deck.
A what-if scenario.: Ceylon 7-1942
Midway has not occurred and the Japanese attempt to contest the Indian Ocean by invading Ceylon island rather than simply raiding British bases and shipping.
As the Afrika Korps is closing on Cairo, could the Indian Ocean turns into an Axis lake ?
