Detailed Description

This DLC contains five scenarios covering this battle where the French army under Napoleon attacked the Prussian forces under the command of Field Marshal Blucher.

Situation: General, Lord Wellington assured us during our morning meeting to join us today with his army on the Sombreffe area.

His Excellency FeldMarschall Blucher promised to engage and hold the French army here for the time necessary. Your corps is in the front line: it is important to hold the line of river Ligne, in order to do this you have to defend the villages and buildings on the left bank of river. The French army must not break our right or we risk to be separated from the Dutch-British Army

Defend the village of Saint-Amand from the French assault

Forces Available:

Part of I Prussian Corps, Commanded by: Generalleutnant Hans Ernst Karl Graf von Ziethen. Consisting of:

I Brigade, GM Steinmetz

II Brigade, GM Pirch

part of III Brigade, GM Jagow

Please note: not all the forces are immediately at your disposal at the start of battle, they will be release to your command gradually according to the approximate time of their engagement during the real battle around Saint-Amand

Historical information

Generalleutnant Hans Ernst Karl Graf von Ziethen; born 5 March 1770 in Dechtow, Margraviate of Brandenburg.

Despite the name, he was not related to Frederick the Great's renowned cavalry general Hans Joachim von Zieten. Hans Ernst von Zieten served as a General of Hussars and as the commander of the Upper Silesian Cavalry Brigade under Field Marshal von BlΓΌcher.

Graf von Zieten's chief fame rests with his actions in the 1815 campaign. Although he held a brigade command in 1813, included Leipzig, it was as a lieutenant general in command of I. Corps in 1815 that he was most prominent, both at Ligny and in the march to Mont St-Jean as troops under his charge shored up Wellington's left flank late in the day. General von Zieten later commanded the Prussian forces during the occupation of France, and attained the rank of field marshal in 1839. He died in May of 1848 in Bad Warmbrunn (present-day Cieplice Slaskie-ZdrΓ³j, Poland). Source: The Prussian Machine:
