About This Game
Play as one of three social groups of your choice who mobilize against a planned lithium mining project. The developer seeks to start mining quickly, you aim to halt this project and initiate a debate about a just and environmentally friendly solution.
Detailed Description
In Lithium, you play as one of three social groups of your choice – Activists, Locals, or the City – who mobilize against a planned lithium mining project in Cínovec, Czechia. The developer seeks to start mining quickly, regardless of the locals’ interests. You aim to halt this project and initiate a debate about a just and environmentally friendly solution.
Will you stall the mining project so the developer cannot finish his projects? Or will you join forces with the remaining social groups for a collective action? The second can be reached by organizing a deliberative forum about the environmental consequences of such mining.
To win the game, it is essential to cooperate with all social groups to gain societal support for your actions. Each social group has different actions and tools at its disposal.
Every action you take may provoke unexpected reaction. You to consider various factors when choosing a winning strategy. These factors include the local community, the global economy, the climate crisis, the impact on nature, and a just energy transition.
Investigating lithium mining in Czech Cínovec and the global context of energy transformation is the central theme of the new ecogame Lithium, developed by the art Blue Pulsar kolektiv for the exhibition Symptoms of the Future at the Hraničář Gallery (September 2024—February 2025).
