About This Game
Fire forward. Bounce back. Traverse tricky traps to take treasure. Seek seagull's sagacious skepticism. Discuss deep dilemmas: destiny, desire, despair.
Detailed Description
Redbeard's Recoil is a tile-based puzzle adventure. Shooting your cannon launches you three tiles backwardsβit's the only way to move.
Existential dialectic
Along the way, you'll engage in philosophical dialogue with a nihilistic seagull named Gulliver. This charmingly existential gull disapproves of some of your main driving forcesβnamely, the collection of coins as a reason to press on. However, Redbeard has plenty to say in response to Gulliver's persistent flurry of despair. Can Redbeard teach Gulliver to strive for some greater purpose, or will the bird retain his conception of the world as transparently meaningless?
Tiled tribulations
Making progress when all motion is backwards is a strange endeavor. Redbeard emerges into a world of various objects, in their assorted configurations of blocking and allowing, danger and safety. At times he treads near Gulliver's amorality, in encounters with creatures reduced to mere stepping stones for self-advancement. In the end, Redbeard will have faced down dozens of challenges across three distinct areas, grappling not only with the world around him but also with his own existence.
Personal note from the developer
I'm a solo indie game dev, and this is my first release. For years, my hobbies have included programming, art, 3d modeling, music composition, and of course playing and thinking about games. It's been so nice to finally have a place to put all of that together. I hope you like it.
