About This Game
Wargame like it's 1981!
Detailed Description
Midway 1981 is a casual, fast-paced game simulating the aircraft carrier battles in the Pacific during World War II. Command a single ship, a fleet, or an island base as you search for the enemy in a race to sink them before they sink you. A typical game lasts from a few minutes to a few tens of minutes. Recreate all six carrier battles of the Pacific War from Coral Sea to Leyte Gulf.
Midway 1981 is based on a UNIX game I wrote in 1981. What it lacks in graphics it makes up for in fun!
When you play Midway 1981, you are in command of a ship that can move, fire its big guns, and fire its anti-aircraft guns. If you choose an Aircraft Carrier or land base, you will have fighters, torpedo bombers, and dive bombers to launch.
The screen is divided into three main areas. The left, and largest area, is an overview of the ocean. The ocean view has 10 levels of magnification. The upper right area is a scrolling text box used to prompt for input and to post messages about the battle. The bottom right area contains status information on your ship or the ship you are scanning. You can make the window full screen to have a large view of the ocean. That's a fun way watch a surface battle in the Solomon Sea.
