N.O.X. puts you in the role of a supernatural investigator. Alone or with friends, you’ll search for clues, identify the spirit, and carry out the ritual needed to send it back. Each investigation requires you to collect three pieces of evidence from a pool of seven. You’ll rely on devices like spirit boxes, EMF readers, and thermal scanners, but equipment doesn’t last forever. Batteries run out, tools fail, and you’ll need to adapt on the spot. Many tools come in different forms, letting you choose the approach that fits your style.

Once the spirit is identified, you’ll need to drive it out. Over ten different rituals exist, each tied to specific weaknesses. Picking the wrong ritual will only strengthen and intensify the ghost's power and aggression.
