Lines of Battle began as a passion project of one man who watched the 1970 film Waterloo hundreds of times, and wanted to distill that feeling into a game anyone could play. Since then, it has grown into a rich, detailed, and competitive wargame supported by a community of mapmakers, consultants, and artists, with the ambition to expand the system across all eras of human warfare.

What’s Coming

• Full 3D Graphics: The Sophie Games team has expanded to include professional designers to develop the vision to glorious 3D.

• Operational Campaigns: Manage divisions and corps, strike at supply lines, and coordinate your grand army across Northern Italy, Central Europe, and the Russian steppe.

• Crossplay: The paid Steam release will involve crossplay with the existing, free-to-play web and mobile versions.

• New eras: New units, mechanics, and systems for Medieval, Roman, Three Kingdoms, and other periods and settings are planned for development on the free 2D platform and expansion to full 3D release.

• Simultaneous Turn-Based Battles: Lines of Battle balances deep thinking, tactical prediction, and the unpredictability of battle with the WeGo turn system. Lay your plans in simultaneous turns, and see the chaos of war unfold in real-time combat. 

• Live and Correspondence Play: Our turn format gives you real-time tactical combat where you can fight out every battle from start to finish, or pick up and play as your free time allows.

• Historical Units and Progression: Players start with a core set of six standard and elite infantry, cavalry, and artillery units. Unlock the full set of 20 historical units, including lancers, Guards, Austrian and French Grenz Infantry and Chasseurs, Russian Licorne gun-howitzers, and British Riflemen and Congreve Rockets. 

• Ranked and Unranked Matchmaking: Use the full suite of units in a rich, balanced ranked meta or fight out equal battles with standard armies in the unranked Classic mode.
