The Zundungeon is a top-down roguelike game in which you play as Zundamon and explore a randomly generated set of levels, enhancing your abilities as you go to assist you in the fight against the final boss. Featuring real-time battles, an innovative condition-based progression system, and a plethora of items to collect, each with their own unique effects, The Zundungeon offers a fresh take on the roguelike genre while preserving the random nature that ensures no two playthroughs are ever the same and forcing players to adapt their strategies to the resources they are provided.

Basic Premise:

The Zundungeon starts on a randomly generated level, known as a "floor", and the player must navigate to the exit to move on to the next floor. Each floor contains several random elements, such as enemies, items, layout, and more. Every five floors, however, takes on a predetermined layout and houses a single boss instead. There are a total of five bosses, but they are not fought in a predetermined order, nor are they simply randomly determined. Instead, a series of three conditions decide which boss is fought, with every unique combination of which are and are not met leading to a specific boss. With the exception of the final boss, each boss drops a special item and resets all three conditions upon defeat, which can never show up normally, so keeping track of which conditions you have and haven't met is the key to fighting the right bosses and getting the items you want most! In order to fight the final boss, all three conditions must be met, but beware! The final boss is very difficult, and rushing to face them right away will likely result in your defeat. Instead, it may be wise to hold off on fighting them and collect items beforehand to battle on more equal footing.

Items:

Items are the main way of growing stronger in The Zundungeon. Every floor has at least one item, which can be obtained by being walked into, and every item provides a unique buff, which can vary in purpose and functionality. Some items may provide an offensive advantage against enemies, such as increasing damage dealt or spawning more projectiles, while others may heal under specific conditions, and others still may fulfill even more purposes. There's no way of knowing what an item does until you acquire it, so be sure to collect them all! Even after an item is obtained, it can always be improved - by collecting a duplicate of an already-owned item, it can be leveled up to a maximum level of three. Similarly to the item's base effects, the effects of leveling up an item can be unpredictable. Some simply boost the item's base effects, while others may add new abilities to the item or otherwise change its usage significantly. While most items can simply be found as part of most floor layouts, some can only be obtained by defeating bosses or completing other tasks, which tend to be the most helpful and noticeable in effect. Some of these special items even bypass the maximum item level of three, allowing them to be upgraded as many times as they can be obtained!
