Detailed Description

Game Pulse: 1981 Season Set

Step into one of baseball's most unusual and memorable seasons. This set brings the complete 1981 professional baseball season to Game Pulse — all 26 teams, every player, and authentic ballpark cards reflecting the quirks and dimensions of the era's classic venues.

What's Included

  • All 26 team rosters with full player cards (position players and pitchers)

  • Every 1981-era ballpark, with ratings derived from period park performance data

  • New ratings built from the full 1981 regular season, divisional playoffs, LCS, and World Series

Card Generation

Every card is generated from actual 1981 season statistics. Batter and pitcher ratings are built from real performance data across the full season, with park factors computed from each stadium's run environment — so Fernando Valenzuela's card reflects his historic rookie season, and Dodger Stadium plays the way it played.

A Season Full of Legends

1981 was packed with stars writing history. Fernando Valenzuela arrived from nowhere to sweep the Rookie of the Year and Cy Young in the same season, igniting Fernandomania and packing stadiums every time he took the mound. Mike Schmidt won the NL MVP. Rollie Fingers swept the AL MVP and Cy Young. Rickey Henderson stole 56 bases in the strike-shortened year on his way to rewriting the record books. Tim Raines led the majors in stolen bases as a rookie. Pete Rose, Steve Carlton, Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver, Dave Winfield, Reggie Jackson, George Brett, Rod Carew, Gary Carter, Eddie Murray — every star's real 1981 performance is here, card for card.

The Split Season

A player strike wiped out 50+ games in the middle of the summer, splitting the year into two halves. The winners of each half in every division met in a best-of-five Division Series — the first divisional playoff round in baseball history. Relive that unique format in Game Pulse, or play a straight season the way it would've gone without the strike.

Relive the 1981 World Series

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Yankees. Down 2-0 in the series, the Dodgers stormed back to win four straight and capture the franchise's first championship since 1965. Fernando Valenzuela pitched a complete-game gem in Game 3 after falling behind early. Pedro Guerrero, Ron Cey, and Steve Yeager shared the MVP award. Replay it batter by batter, manage either side, or run the series a few dozen times to see how often history repeats itself. Every at-bat, every pitching change, every ballpark detail — all driven by the real 1981 cards and the roll of the dice.

A Cards and Dice Baseball Game

Game Pulse is a true cards and dice baseball simulation. Every plate appearance is resolved by player cards and dice rolls — the same tactile, statistically driven experience that tabletop fans have loved for decades, brought to life digitally with full animation, sound, and presentation.

Full Game Pulse Compatibility

The 1981 Season Set works across every Game Pulse mode:

  • Full season play

  • Tournament brackets

  • Board Game Companion mode

  • Exhibition games and custom matchups

All existing Game Pulse systems apply — AI manager decisions, dice trends analytics, fatigue tracking, player stats, and in-game overlays all use the new 1981 cards seamlessly. Mix and match with other season sets for dream matchups — 1981 Valenzuela against a modern lineup, or the Dodgers against any team in Game Pulse history.
