About This Game
Stop memorizing English one word at a time. Greek Roots teaches the prefixes, suffixes, and roots behind the vocabulary of science, medicine, and ideas — learn the parts, and read the whole. 1,000 words on 1,000 cards, with spaced repetition and boss fights.
Detailed Description
Big vocabularies are not built one word at a time.
They are built from the Greek root buried inside a word and the pieces bolted around it. Greek Roots hands you that machinery — and with it, the vocabulary of science, medicine, and ideas that English quarried out of Greek.
Learn a single root — graph, to write, to draw — and a dozen words open at once: photograph, biography, autograph, telegraph, paragraph, seismograph, calligraphy, cartography, choreography, cryptography, geography, even graphite and typography. The next word with graph in it gives up its meaning without a dictionary.
Learn the parts. Read the whole
Alongside the roots comes the toolkit of Greek prefixes and endings — anti-, hyper-, syn-, dia-, meta-, para-, -ology, -itis, -graphy, -phobia — the pieces that snap onto almost anything. Put them together and a word that looks like a wall of letters comes apart on sight:
auto- (self) + bio (life) + graph (write) + -y → the writing of one's own life. An autobiography.
You read its meaning straight off the surface.
The vocabulary of science and ideas
Greek is where English keeps its serious words — the language of medicine and the laboratory, of philosophy and criticism. Learn the roots and the term on a diagnosis or a science page stops being a wall of letters: cardiomyopathy is only cardio (heart) + myo (muscle) + -pathy (disease). You gain the ground between hypothesis and synthesis, empathy and mere apathy, diagnosis and prognosis. Precise words make precise thoughts, and roots are the parts precise words are built from.
It pays off twice
These roots are international. The Greek that built biology built biologie, biología, and biologia too — the sciences run on the same Greek vocabulary in language after language. Learn it once here, and you will recognize it far beyond English: on a museum label, a medicine box, a research paper in a tongue you have never studied.
In this pack
1,000 cards, 1,000 words — each a single English word traced to the Greek inside it, and grouped with its kin so the whole family arrives together
The prefix and ending toolkit — the few dozen Greek building blocks (anti-, syn-, -ology, -itis, -phobia) that attach to almost everything
Root families across five tiers — grown from Greek roots and the English descended from them, ascending from everyday words to the vocabulary of the sciences
Etymology on every card — the Greek root in its own script, a transliteration you can pronounce, and exactly how the parts assemble
Example sentences — every word shown in clear, natural context
Synonyms — and antonyms where a contrast sharpens the sense — to place each word precisely
Boss-fight graduation — no family clears until its hardest members are mastered
